Duskflip Privacy Policy
Summary
Duskflip changes the colours of the websites you open: dark mode, light mode, or the site's original colours. It works entirely inside your browser. It has no servers, no account, no analytics and no tracking, and it never sends anything over the network. Maniastra receives no data from the extension, at all.
What the extension stores, and where
Everything Duskflip stores is kept in Chrome's own extension storage on your device:
- Your choices: the mode you picked for a site, keyed by the site's host name (for example
example.com: dark), your default mode for all sites, the "follow system theme" option, and the brightness and contrast values. These are saved inchrome.storage.sync, so if you have Chrome sync turned on, Google Chrome syncs them between your own devices under your Google account, exactly as it syncs your other extension settings. A copy is also kept inchrome.storage.localfor instant access. - Sites that are already dark: the host names of sites Duskflip measured as natively dark, so that Dark mode does not invert them twice and they do not flash on your next visit. This list stays in
chrome.storage.localon this device only and is never synced or sent anywhere. Ordinary light sites are not recorded.
Duskflip does not keep a history of the pages you visit, does not store full addresses (URLs), and does not store page content.
What the extension reads on a page
To do its job, Duskflip runs a small script on the pages you open. That script:
- inserts a stylesheet that applies a colour filter to the page (and reverses it for photos and video), and
- reads the page's computed background and text colours to tell whether the site is already dark.
It does not read, collect or transmit the text of the page, anything you type into forms, passwords, cookies, or any other page content.
What is sent over the network
Nothing. The extension makes no network requests of its own. Its code is entirely contained in the package published on the Chrome Web Store; no code is downloaded at run time.
Permissions and why they are needed
- storage: to remember your choices and settings, as described above.
- scripting: to register the extension's own packaged script so a page is styled before it is first drawn (this prevents a white flash), and to start it in tabs that were already open when you installed Duskflip.
- Access to all websites: dark or light mode has to be applied on whichever site you open, before the page is drawn. The script only changes colours and reads colours.
Third parties
There are none. No analytics, advertising, crash reporting or other third-party services are included. Chrome sync, if you use it, is a feature of Google Chrome that you control in Chrome's settings.
Deleting your data
Removing the extension from Chrome deletes everything it stored locally. To also clear synced choices from your Google account, you can reset Chrome sync data in your Google Account settings. You can forget a single site's choice at any time with "Use the default for this site" in the Duskflip popup.
Children
Duskflip is a general-purpose tool and collects no personal data from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new "Last updated" date. A change that would make the extension send data anywhere would be announced in the Chrome Web Store listing before it ships.
